The Irregular Update moves to Beehiiv

Tabletop RPG updates by Tanya Floaker in 2025

Dear Reader,

With the money behind Substack coming from supporters of the far right, the platform unwilling to tackle its Neo-Nazi problem, and now making public alliances with far right pundits, I'm out.

I feel I should have left sooner, but not really using the site, I didn't realize how bad it had got until now. This update is coming from Beehiiv, the new home for my mailing list management. It isn’t perfect, but I’m going to give it a go.

Before now, I called my mailing list the Irregular Update, due to only posing when a game was crowdfunding. However, I'm going to have quite a lot of games and projects going forward over the coming year. Rather than bombard you with loads of emails, I'm going to condense my output to a single post at the start of each month.

That way I can post about new projects, design thoughts, preview content, and also link things like this discussion about BE SEEING YOU I had with Jess on the Not DnD show for EN World:

With the new home and the new format, I'm also renaming the mailing list to The Floating Worker: the words that create the portmanteau Floaker. The next update will be early 2025, and will be talking more about:

  • The next game I'll be bringing to Kickstarter: Mum Chums. This slice-of-life game will be about the people who care for kids. Ideal for parents and non-parents alike.

  • In development Gnostic occult action thriller The Thunder Perfect Mind.

  • Progress on Solstice 2: Winter's Respite, the card-based sequel to my folk horror zine Solstice.

Title reads: "Mum Chums: A slice of life RPG about the people who care for kids". It is overlayed on a picture of two pairs of hands holding one another across a table, with cups of tea either side.

I hope you enjoy the change of pace and improved content. Do reach out here or on Bluesky if you want to talk more.

Narratively Yours,

Tanya Floaker.
